It's Time for my favorite technique - Paper Piecing of course!

Happy Saturday Everyone!
It's one of those "Just Because" cards and this one sure is a sweet one!
When I started scrapbooking almost 12 years ago there weren't very many products to be found and so it really was a technique driven hobby.
I met a scrapping buddy and through her I learnt how to paper piece. Soon I was cutting smaller and smaller pieces, glueing them and then pen stitching all around them. There was barely a page that didn't have a hand created character on it.
Then things changed, products were available everywhere, premade pages, 3D accents, all the things I'd spent hours making before were available to just "peel and stick". The art of the tiny scissors went the way of the wind.
Then I started cardmaking about a year and a half ago and I realized that the stampers were quietly keeping this technique going like a little secret society:)
It was a revelation to me and a joy!
Now I try and do a little cutting at least once a week and this is one of those weeks :)

It helped that one of my favorite blogs had this as a challenge this week amongst the others on this card:

La La Lands want Paper Piecing
Creative Cottage want Pretty Pink
Stamp Something want Pink Something
Jacksonbelle had a 123 recipe of 1 Black item, 2 Punched items and 3 Circles
Try It Out Tuesday had a Sketch
The Cuttlebug Spot want Pink and Green

Card Recipe:
Image - Sweet Lala
Paper - Imaginisce Fairest of Them All
Medium - Copic Markers
Flowers - Wild Orchid Crafts
Sentiment - Studio G
Pearls - Queen & Co
Border Punches - Martha Stewart

I hope you can see the paper piecing on Lala's dress.
She sure is sweet with her big blue eyes and I'm sending a wave over to all the Lala Girls!

Challenge #10 at Cooking It Up!

Happy Wednesday!
It's time for another challenge over at my Cooking It Up With Katie card recipe blog.

This time the recipe is:
Home or Family theme
Punch something
Use a sticker

I used the following challenges:
For the banner:

Raise the Bar had an Older the Better theme and wanted old papers
Res Q wanted you to have an "Inventory Check Up" and use some things you've had for ages (I think the 7+ year old papers work)
Frosted Designs wanted Embossing
Just Us Girls had a Wildcard of making a Banner
Crafty Angels wanted Buttons
Jacksonbelle want Buttons, Bows or Brads
Little Red Wagon wanted Chipboard
Sweet Stampin wanted Scallops
Creatalicious wanted No Stamped or Digi images
Created By Hand wanted anything but a Square or Rectangle
Paper Minutes wanted Triangles

For the matching card:

Stamp Something had a theme of "Delightfully Delicious"
Polly Craft wanted "Things with Wings" and Tilda is an Angel so she definitely has wings.
Lord Have Mercy had a super simple sketch that worked perfectly for this set
Crafty Angels wanted Buttons
Jacksonbelle want Buttons, Bows or Brads
Sweet Stampin wanted Scallops
Creative Belli wanted Ribbons
Magnolia Lovers wanted Buttons or Bows or both

I really like using my paper crafts in my home and thought the idea of a "Home" banner would be a fun concept.

I used really old papers, they are Color by Design from 2001, but they went so well with the new Mary Engelbreit accents from Michaels $1 spot.
The chipboard letters were spray painted with Krylon, much quicker and even than painting by hand.
I used my trusty Threading Water punch by Fiskars and the border at the top is embossed too with the Swiss Dots folder.
The flowers are Prima and the brads in the center from Target.

On the card I used Baking Tilda and colored her with Copic's.

I carried on all the embellishments inside on to the message mat.

Here's a close up of Tilda and her Cookies!
I'd love to see your creations from this challenge over at Cooking It Up With Katie.

It's Snowing! (Challenges that is!)

Happy Saturday,
This is one of those rare cards that I did just because I wanted to and not because of a Design Team commitment.
I love using my Magnolia stamps and there were a few challenges (19!) this week that just led me towards a new card with sweet Tilda as the star.

Everybody Art wanted Snowflakes
Stamp With Fun also wanted Snowflakes
Roses On Paper wanted Winter
Three Clovers also wanted Winter
Fussy and Fancy wanted Winter too
Stampin B's had a Winter Fun theme and I think the "punny" title makes this card a little fun :)
Stamp Something had a color combo of Blue and White
Basic Grey had a photo inspiration of a beautiful shades of blue room
Die Cuts R Us wanted you to use your Holiday Leftovers
Jacksonbelle wanted Bling!
Practical Scrappers wanted Bling too
Belli wanted Bling as well
Humblepie wanted 2 types of Bling and I used rhinestones and pearls.
Papertake had a great sketch
Tuesday Morning Sketches wanted to see Buttons and Bows
Creative Card Crew wanted to see Distressing
Creative Inspirations Callenge also wanted to see Distressing
Flutterby Wednesdays had an open theme as long as it is a Fairy, Butterfly or Angel
Stamping Vacation had a new Pick 3 challenge. I chose : An image with Wings, At least 1 gem or crystal, Any color you might see in the sky

I chose the super sweet "Love Tilda" but instead of traditional Valentines colors I chose a wintery color scheme to go with the themes from the challenges. I'm sorry I couldn't link her but my regular Magnolia sources don't seem to have her but she's from the Spring 2008 collection.
I colored her with Copic's and added a touch of silver Prismacolor to her wings and shoes.
I used scraps from both the Fruitcake and Eskimo Kisses collections by Basic Grey.
The snowflakes are Emagination punches, punched from American Crafts metallic cardstock. The ribbon is from Michaels and I printed out the sentiment in the Garamouche font.
All the panels are inked with Chalk Ink and the Rhinestones are Michaels $1 spot and the Pearls are Queen and Co.

The inside is more dp and a distressed message mat (that sounds funny!)

Here is a close up of Tilda in her Love sweater.

I hope you enjoyed this card as much as I did making it.
Be sure to come back next week for lots of new cards.

The dp is the Basic Grey Boxer collection.
The border punch is Martha Stewart.

Inside is more dp and a message mat.

Here's a close up of the cute Chef!

One Stop Craft wanted to see a "Fancy Fold"

I printed out Humpty and his wall and colored them with Copic's. Then I cut them out and layered them on a Nestie.
The dp is Colorbok.
I printed out the sentiment and cut it with the pinking circle Nestie.

Santa, Don't be mad! - A new Christmas Card and tag from a brand new Artist!

Happy Thursday!
I'm honored to show you a new from a wonderful new designer!
Faith has been a friend of mine for a couple of years now and I've always admired her cards not matter which stamp company design she used. She can make a classic card, a funny card, a religious card, it doesn't seem to matter, I love them all!
Recently she decided to take her art to the next level and she's now designing her own digital images!
Designed 2 Delight is only just getting started but already the images are so good I know I'll want them all!
When Faith asked me to make a card using one of the new images I jumped at the chance and I hope you like the result.
Here is the gorgeous stamp I chose to use.

Be sure to read all the way to bottom of the post for a great discount just for being here!
I used a few challenges (17!) along the way to help me :)
I chose the sketch at Mojo Monday as my starting point.
365 Cards Day 273 want you to use Damask so I embossed the border strips with a Damask style embossing folder.
Color Throwndown had a color combo of Olive, Red, Brown/Cream and Pink
Rosie Dees wanted Red and Green and a bit of Bling!
Incy Wincy wanted Red and Green too
Opus Gluei had the theme of Holiday Bliss with anything relating to the Holiday Season
Creative Card Crew had a Christmas theme and so did Digital Tuesday and Stamp With Fun
Everybody Art wants to see Stitching
Jacksonbelle wanted a Christmas card so did Practical Scrappers and Paper Make Up as well
Creative Inspirations wanted a Christmas Card with matching tag
Paper Cutz had an open theme
Ok, now I'm really pushing it with this challenge Flutterby Wednesday had an open theme as long as the image is a Fairy, Butterfly or Angel. Well as this little guy has a halo he must be angel really, mustn't he? LOL And if he is then he fits with the challenge of Angels at Crafty Catz too!

This is one of the great things about digital stamps, you can print them in any size you like so if you want a card and matching tag you do this easily!
I colored the images with Copic's.
The dp are Basic Grey.
The Holly accents are from Hobby Lobby and the rhinestones are from Michaels $1 spot.

Here is the card on it's own.

Inside I added an additional sentiment, I hope it makes you smile :)

This matching gift card turned out so cute!

Don't you feel sorry for Teddy gettingcaught red handed? LOL

This was a "one off", I'm not on another team ;) but I hope you enjoyed this card.
If you'd like to purchase the image for yourself Faith has offered a discount to anyone coming from this blog. You simply use the coupon code "katiesfriend " for a Buy One Get One Free discount!
Designed 2 Delight
This code will work for just the first 50 times and expires on December 10th at 11.59pm so hurry and get your stamps while the discount is available.
Also with it being digital stamps there's no waiting for them to be shipped, you can start playing as soon as they arrive in your inbox!

Celebrate Today - A Pink Christmas Card with a difference!

Happy Thursday!
Well you'll never believe it, this card is just for me! No Design Team commitment this time, just simply cardmaking for the pure pleasure of it!
I'll admit it was a struggle to make the image look "Christmasy" but sometimes we need to stretch ourselves so we remember it's not always "easy street"! LOL

Now just because I didn't make this for a team doesn't mean I did use some challenges!
Stamp Artic wanted a Pink Christmas Card
Magnolia-licious Highlites want a Magnolia card with Accessories only, no characters
Just Magnolia gave me the sketch
Fab's Big Christmas wants you to make a stamped background paper
Jacksonbelle Embellishments had a photo inspiration and I chose this dress with Pink and Snowflakes
Tuesday Morning Sketches had a recipe of 3 papers, 2 embellishments and 1 flourish. 2 Basic Grey papers and the stamped paper, the circle tags and snowflakes and the flourish are the flower strands in the image.
Kraftin Kimmie wanted
"Lotsa Circles" and I think the sketch has lots!

The challenge to use a Magnolia accessory stamp was hard for me as I don't have few many of them and certainly not many that would "stand alone" as a card image.
But I've always liked this watering can and I hope I managed to make it look "Christmasy" enough. I didn't ink up the part with the butterfly as that would be too "Spring" and I tried to color the leaves and flowers to look a little like Holly and Poinsettias. I used vellum snowflake stickers by The Paper Studio and used Tulip Puffy Paint in White to make the snow. I painted it on in tiny swirls and then used my Marvy Heat Gun to gentley puff it up. It takes a gentle hand so you don't burn the paint as Heat Gun's are hot!!!
The dp are from , wait for it, the Eskimo Kisses collection by Basic Grey!.
I used a Studio G $1 stamp to make the Holly panel and topped that with a border from the Valentines Lace border punch by Martha Stewart.
The acrylic letters are The Paper Studip and the snowflakes were white but I colored them with a Copic marker.
The "Celebrate today" sentiment is an Inspirable by EK Success.

The inside is more dp and a message mat with a coordinating snowflake.

Here you can see a close up, and I just love the Puffy Paint!
Anyway, I hope you've liked today's card, be back tomorrow for a Digital Delights freebie and on Saturday I've got a great new project for The Pixie Cottage.
Thanks for stopping by!

The Pixie Cottage Challenge #3 - A new Sketch

Here's the 3rd and final post for today!
It's time for another new challenge at The Pixie Cottage and this time it's another new sketch.

There are so many wonderful Pixie Cottage stamps to choose from but when I saw this one I just had to use it! It's drawn by the very talented Tish and was an absolute joy to color!

Of course I had add some other challenges along the way :)

Kraftin Kimmie wanted you to Stitch It Up, whether it be real or faux.
Daring Cardmakers wanted to see you Get Krafty and use Kraft paper somewhere on your card
Easy Breezy Kewl had a color combo of Ruby Red, Chocolate Chip, Kraft and Whisper White
Play Along Monday wanted Anything Christmas and so did Jacksonbelle Embellishments and Belli too!
Die Cuts R Us wanted you to "Emboss Something" so I used a new CB folder on the Kraft panel.

It's Rudolph fabulous? You can almost hear him telling Santa of everything that is one his list.
The dp are from My Minds Eye and are embossed and glittered giving an extra depth to the card.
The holly are wooden accents from Hobby Lobby and the ribbon is Michaels.
I used the one of the new Cuttlebug embossing folders on the Kraft panel.
The sentiment is Colorbok.
I added Glossy Accents to Rudolph's nose and Pearl puffy paint to Santa's beard, hat, cuffs and boot tops.
The paint reflected in the gloss on the photo so it looks liked they smudged but in real life all is well :)

The inside is more dp and a message mat.

Here is a better view of the happy pair and you can see no smudges here ;)
It's a great sketch to work with and I'd love to see what you make of it over at The Pixie Cottage
